Haleakala
The sliding sands trail to Paliku is 3-day trek into the crater of Mount Haleakala, the volcano responsible for the creation of the island of Maui. After 2 days of shale-covered trails, wrong turns and sudden downpours, I found myself alone, atop a small boulder with a pot of oatmeal and my camera. Surrounded by an orange haze overtaking a plateau of purple clouds I stared in pure amazement at the famed Haleakala sunrise.
